The Snow Leopard

Kwame-Nicrumah-Acheampong is the first alpine skier ever to represent the snow-less African country of Ghana a Winter Olympic Games. He will be training here in the Comox Valley at Mt. Washington over the next ten days.
Kwane was actually born in Scotland, in 1974 but he grew up in Ghana before returning to Britain and found work at an indoor winter sports arena where he strapped on skis for the first time.
Coming from a nation without snow makes his participation and storyparticularly special. Equally remarkable he only started skiing just over five years ago.

  1. While it is interesting, they still must be able to compete on the level of world class athletes. Often we get the Eddie the Eagle happening which is not good for the sport

  2. Well, what has happened since Eddie the Eagle is that there are minimal requirements or standards that now must be met -instead of being the only person from a country willing to go for it.
